Julie Andrews: The Sound of Christmas - Season 1 (1)

Dec 16, 1987
The great Coloratura Soprano Julie Andrews joins with tenor Placido Domingo and country singer John Denver on a Christmas musical journey of the ages. We learn a little bit about the birth place of Mozart during which Julie delights us with a beautiful, yet funny adapted Mozart piece called "A Christmas Fantasy." She trills, hits high A and A-flats like no tomorrow. After which we are entertained by the singing trio in Sondheim's A Little Night Music, followed by a Strauss adaptation in 3/4 time, a teaser of Merry Widow (Julie and Placido were meant to perform a live stage version of Merry Widow in 1990 season) and finally for this segment a beautiful duet piece composed by Placido Domingo's son "Key to my Heart." The show ends with a spectacular concert event with Julie Andrews soaring with her pristine soprano in English carols, followed by a glorious duet version of Gounod's Ave Maria. It is hard to not fall in love with this spectacular show winner of many Emmy awards and world wide recognition. It was however, a pity that Julie Andrews did not hit that final high note with Placido, because there is no doubt her own instrument is no inch less than the beauty of Placido Domingo's.
